First night in the new house!

Our first night in the Umatilla house brought excitement and thankfulness. Austin & I hope so deeply for the community potential in the neighborhood. We have already met several neighbors, all of which have been warm & inviting. One even praised God that we were there, as they have been praying for years for believers to move into the neighborhood! How amazing is our God. When following God to this house, we never could have dreamt for words like those.

Here are some photos from last night! After settling in from church, we sat down and ate tacos from the taco stand outside a carwash just a few blocks away. Gracias taco-guy!

Where do we even begin...??

6 weeks. Not that long, right? Well, to us it seems it has been a year! So much has happened. We have been floored and surprised by God's mercy, faithfulness, and well, that He is just fun!

Drum roll please....WE ARE BUYING A HOUSE!! Among other things that have happened in the past few weeks, this is at the forefront. We want God to receive all the glory, for He has provided all of it. We are so excited to be settling into this city, investing in a neighborhood and the good of the community.

Here she is:

In the midst of signing, appraisals, inspections, and all the other house-buying activities, we have also had a great time on campus. Our last familia dinner, this time with a venezuelan theme, was a huge success. Our students continue to impress me as they discuss topics like trust & friendship. God is really working in their lives. We love hosting them, where ever we may be.

This is their hilarious attempt to invite students to dinner, in spanish! We are so thankful for all of you laboring alongside us in prayer for people to trust and live in Christ in Denver.

the house hunt begins...

For those of you who know Austin and I well, that title makes us nervous! We have done a lot of gabbing in the past about houses being so far off in our future, wanting to buy a house in cash, etc. Well, we do a lot of gabbing. We are considering taking the plunge.

Looking for a house (to buy...you read correctly) raises so many questions in our minds: are we too young? are we really willing to commit to this city? Is this the wisest for our family and our pocketbooks? Above all these questions, though, one stands out louder than the rest: do we really trust God in all this?

I (Kayla) have recently been wrestling through this nasty beast of a habit called control. I've needed control over things in my life for so many reasons, manifesting in most aspects of life. Though God has grown me greatly, I am more and more aware of it ever day. As Jesus and I continue to wrestle through this, it is no surprise to me what trusting God with finances, a potential neighborhood, risks, committing to a city, and learning to heed my husband's direction has surfaced control issues beyond what I even knew were there. It's humbling.

So, the question I'm now asking: am I stewarding my trust, or just my finances? Am I trusting God with all of me, surrendering (not only) our desires to settle roots but my fear of failure?

We would love to invite you into this process with us by asking you to pray. Pray for God's wisdom, vision for owning a home (serving neighbors, living missionaly, stewardship), and the finances to do so. We were recently introduced to those 3 simple prayer-points by wise men at our church. Please join with us.
