Meet Kayla. She loves everyone that she sees on TV, she even thinks she knows them, personally and intimately. Kayla grew up in Knoxville, Tn and never left. Until now. Kayla's family lives and loves Jesus deeply, and modeled that to her from an early age. After graduating high school, the big decision was whether to go to a christian college or UT. Obviously she chose UT. As most good southern women (the most ridiculous thing ever), Kayla met the most important person in her life at UT. Austin. Well, she did. But Jesus is the most important. She met him in the 5th grade. After college, Kayla spent a year interning with CRU and fell in love with what God was doing at UT. During that year...
Austin asked Kayla to marry him. She said yes one rainy day in Daytona Beach, FL, alongside bikers & spring breakers, and friends who like to trick her into going to a lighthouse to find "lost keys". Austin had surprised her by showing up at the lighthouse, dressed like dapper dan, and their world changed in an instant. Jesus is so faithful.
After becoming engaged, came finishing up old jobs in Knoxville, and then onto joining staff in Orlando, summer of 2010. They fully intended to be heading back to UT, to join the staff team that they so dearly loved. But, God had other plans. This is where the adventure became one where they had less control.
The end of their first week in training (in hot orlando...) God clearly called them to join the staff of Destino, the ministry to Latino college students across the US. Where would God call them? Denver, Colorado. It sure wasn't easy, but the Lord's voice was clear. Austin and Kayla would be moving to Denver to pursue & share life with the some 1/3 population of Latinos in the city.
That's where they are now. They moved in March of 2011, found a quaint unit inside an old house in a hilarious neighborhood. They fall more and more in love with Jesus and Latinos everyday.
